The court on Monday declared former presidential candidate Cyrus Jirongo bankrupt after he failed to settle Ksh 700 million debt.
The ruling by Justice Olga Sewe came forth after the former parliamentarian failed to pay businessman Sammy Kogo, his creditor.
Jirongo secured a loan from the National Bank of Kenya using Kogo’s properties namely; Masole Ltd, Baia Enterprises Ltd, Gilera Ltd, Koti Developers, Saman Developers Ltd, Kenete Eneterprises Ltd, Marimio Enterprises Ltd and Linsala Enterprises Ltd.
However, he was unable to repay the amount to Mr Kogo who therefore took matters to the court seeking justice.
The court issued him with 180 days to repay the money in September 12, 2013 but he never did. Neither did he appear in court and the orders were thus given undefended.
Jirongo is also facing multiple lawsuits inclusive, COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli is also suing the 56 -year old for failure to pay sh110 million in debt.
